- Name + age + where you come from:
My name is Espen, I'm 54 and born in Oslo. I've lived other places, but I'm a Kongsvinger boy. - How long have you worked at Norske Backer:
Must be turning about 14 years old now maybe, so one of the newbies here. - What position do you have and what do you do at work:
I'm actually a structural engineer, so I design and prepare things for production. Then I also work as the IT manager, so I run the IT for the building, plus we actually develop some software here that I work with. - What do you like about the job – do you enjoy it?
I enjoy it very much, it is very varied, and there are very good colleagues here. Such a good work environment. - How did you find and get a job here?
I was hired as a consultant sometime in the 90s, and then I was asked about a job here in 2012, I believe, and at the time I was actually working at the prison over here and then I said yes. So from prison to constructor – Yes, it varies. - What education/background do you have:
It's a bit of a “mixed” background, having kind of never really known what I wanted to be. But I went to engineering college, specifically civil engineering, after high school. When I finished that, I went to officer candidate school, so then I got hooked on the military and was there for ten years. While I was there, I took a bachelor's degree in computer science at Blindern. Then the kids started getting older, and I moved back to Kongsvinger and started at the prison here. From there I went to the prison academy and became a correctional officer before I finally started here. - What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies?
I like to travel a lot, and then I have a cabin that I spend quite a bit of time at. I try to work out a bit, but I am very fond of watching TV, so there is a lot of series and sports. Any favorite TV show? I am very fond of Nordic noir, no clear favorite, but something in that genre. - How many countries have you visited?
Well, I haven't calculated it, but it must be somewhere between 25 and 30. What is the longest you have traveled away? I have been to Mexico, Israel and Lebanon, but I am missing a lot eastward. So I would love to travel to Vietnam and Japan one day. - What is your favorite fruit?
Clementine! - Favorite dish?
Steak, in all its variations. - Do you sing in the shower? In the car?
No, I do not. - What do you listen to in the car? Music, podcast, radio, nothing?
Listening to both music and podcasts, it's rarely quiet.
