Norske Backer has long been committed to quality and the environment; a dedication reflected in our certifications. As early as 1995, we were certified according to ISO 9001, and in 2015, we followed up with certification under ISO 14001These ISO standards form the foundation of our management systems for quality and environmental sustainability, ensuring that we deliver high-quality products and services while also considering our environmental impact.
The ISO 9001 standard imposes strict requirements on our internal processes, from product quality to workplace safety, employee well-being, and customer service. It is essential for us to have well-documented routines that ensure a high standard in all areas. Similarly, ISO 14001 ensures that we maintain full control over how our business impacts the environment. Both standards require us to continuously work on improvements, a process we take very seriously.
As international standards, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 are recognized worldwide, and many of our customers require us to be certified. The certificates are valid for three years, but we undergo annual audits to ensure we meet all the requirements. Every three years, a re-certification is conducted, which is a more thorough review than the annual follow-up audits. Our accredited third party, Nemkois responsible for these audits. In August this year, we successfully passed such a re-certification for ISO 14001, meaning we are certified for another three years.
In addition to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, we hold several other certifications. We are certified to produce products with Ex, VDE, UL, and Nemko certifications, among others. These certifications are also audited by various third parties, and we are therefore well accustomed to having auditors visit. All employees are responsible for following relevant procedures, but it is the quality and environmental manager’s job to ensure this is done. This includes performing internal audits, following up on deviations and complaints, and reporting to management, the group, customers, and other stakeholders.
At Norske Backer, we take pride in our certifications and the work we do to maintain them. This is part of our commitment to delivering high-quality products in an environmentally conscious way, and we look forward to continuing this work in the years to come.
Quality and Environmental Manager Retires
After many years of impressive dedication, our skilled quality and environmental manager, Bengt, has decided to gradually step down and eventually retire. Bengt has been an invaluable part of Norske Backer since June 2008 when he took over as quality manager from his predecessor. Over the years, Bengt has played a key role in ensuring that our high standards for quality and environmental protection have been maintained.
Bengt describes the job as follows: "I started at Norske Backer in June 2008 when I took over the position of quality manager from the previous manager, who was retiring. It’s a job that gives great insight into nearly all functions within the company and good contact with most of our excellent employees."
His broad insight and experience have been crucial in developing our internal processes and maintaining our many certifications. Now, as Bengt approaches retirement, the baton will be passed on to Tommy and Oda, who will together continue his work.
We thank Bengt for his outstanding contribution over the years and wish him a well-deserved and enjoyable retirement when the time comes. At the same time, we look forward to seeing how Tommy and Oda will carry forward and build upon the solid foundation Bengt has laid.
Incoming Quality and Environmental Manager takes over the Responsibility for ISO Certification
Although our dear quality and environmental manager Bengt is soon to enter retirement, we are confident that the baton will be passed to capable hands. Tommy, who has over 20 years of experience in Norske Backer’s production, is eager to take over responsibilities including ISO 9001, health and safety, and chemical management. "I see it as an exciting challenge to take over from Bengt, and I feel fortunate to have had such a knowledgeable and kind mentor," says Tommy. He looks forward to working on the various processes within the company and continuing the solid work Bengt has done.
Tommy will also collaborate closely with our sustainability leader and marketing coordinator, Oda, on the ISO 14001 certification. Oda shares Tommy’s enthusiasm and emphasizes how fortunate they are to carry on the work of such an experienced and skilled leader as Bengt. With this strong transition, we look forward to continuing our work on quality, environmental protection, and sustainability in a secure and competent manner.
