After an extensive process, Norske Backer has successfully launched solar panels in full operation as part of our sustainability efforts. The solar panels can reduce our electricity purchases by about 35%, representing a significant economic and environmental investment.
This initiative began in spring 2023, marking a critical step in our sustainability strategy.
The Process
Challenges included high demand among suppliers and comprehensive tender gathering. We also had to engage engineers to assess the load-bearing capacity of our roof, which was insufficient for a standard solar setup.
After careful considerations and calculations, the engineers found a solution that allowed for the correct distribution of the load on the roof.
Installation work began in week 15, with Caverion as our supplier, and during week 16, 666 solar panels were mounted on the roof.
The panels were operational early in week 18.
Electricity Production and Consumption
In 2023, our electricity consumption was 536,000 kWh.
Our new solar power system, with a capacity of 273 kWp and consisting of 666 solar modules and two 110kW inverters, is expected to produce about 157,829 kWh annually, depending on the weather.
By implementing solar panels, we contribute not only to economic savings but also to relieving capacity pressure on the grid and reducing the need for fossil energy sources.
Norway's Green Transition
By enhancing our production of renewable energy, we hope to support Norway's green transition. Since 1990, CO2 emissions in Norway have been reduced by less than 5%, but with reinforced climate goals, a reduction of 27% by 2035 is targeted.
Our contribution could be an annual reduction of 4.12 tCO2e, based on our annual production of 157,829 kWh.2Our contribution could be an annual reduction of 4.12 tCO2e, based on our annual production of 157,829 kWh.
