The Norwegian Transparency Act

The Transparency Act is an“Act relating to enterprises‘ transparency and work on fundamental human rights and decent working conditions” that took effect from July 1st, 2022. Norske Backer is a subject to the law and are therefore obliged to investigate and take measures accordingly.

We think this is an important and necessary law, that intends to “promote enterprises’ respect for fundamental human rights and decent working conditions in connection with the production of goods and the provision of services and ensure the general public access to information regarding how enterprises address adverse impacts on fundamental human rights and decent working conditions”

We have through our parent company already worked a lot on this, and we have previously had our suppliers to sign our Code of Conduct. In conjunction with the Transparency Act we have decided to resend our Code of Conduct to all our suppliers, to make sure all suppliers have signed the form. There will be a requirement that this form is signed by every supplier we use. If it happens that some of our supplies do not sign our Code of Conduct, we will make demands about this for us to stay on as customers. If they do still not sign, we will look for new suppliers instead.

In our investigations, we have so far not discovered any deviations, and we have strict guidelines from our group regarding which countries we are not allowed to trade with. We share our report here, so that those who want to can read more about our work with the Transparency Act.
